Engine build 11/02/2006

While checking TDC and setting pointer I noticed these cracks in the timing cover gasket

Turned out to be three cracks. Is it just out side or all the way though? Means a oil leak to fix later.

I guess it would have been an oil leak.

A Rover set, silicone sealer and proper torque.???

Back together, What happened? I haven't installed a sheet metal cover in 20 years. Belts have alum. covers.

The bolt holes were distorted and wedged the gasket apart.

Flip it over place a deep socket behind the hole and tap with the ball end of a ball peen hammer.

If anything go past flat and use a washer to spread the load. If you don't think it's right don't go ahead till it is right

Front bolt and new loc tab.

Check the shoulder on the bolt to be sure it does not bottom on the crank before it contacts the balancer.

It was fine with the old balancer but we needed a new one so best to check.

I have a 1.5 rocker assembly on the way maybe tomorrow. Rocker shaft, bushes and pads are all worn beyond use.

Everything we have done has been to quiet the engine and get what is there.

It's been written that 1.5 s should get you 4 HP from mid range on with this cam in a good breathing 1275+.

I look forward to getting it on the rollers.
